Gallery Description
Chinese Brush Painting is a very ancient art form that originated in China hundreds of years ago. This elegant art form emerged from Chinese calligraphy, the high art to which the nobility devoted considerable time and effort. Thus Chinese brush painting was also considered as a pursuit of the aristocrats. Now this style is gaining popularity all over the world. Chinese paintings are done on delicate silk or rice paper which absorbs paint very easily. Typical objects are flowers, birds, animals and landscapes. This art form uses the Chinese brush similar to the Western watercolor brush but for a finer tip that gives the paintings its unique style. There is no prepared sketch or model. The artist makes rapid, defining strokes that cannot be modified or corrected later. This makes the Chinese brush paintings unique when compared to the watercolor paintings. Chinese brush painting is a 'symbolic expression' where the artist brings forth the object from his mind and heart, giving it the beauty, rhythm and life of nature. The artist signs the painting with a red seal.
