Gallery Description
Impressionism as a movement started in Paris, France and it gave rise to the modern art. It is sometimes called optical realism because of its almost scientific interest in the actual visual experience and effect of light and movement on appearance of objects. Impressionist painters like to paint landscapes and scenes from daily life and study the effect of light on the objects. Edouard Manet, Claude Monet, Edgar Degas, Camille Pissarro and Pierre Auguste Renoir are some of the earliest known impressionists. Impressionist's fascination with light and movement was at the core of their art. Exposure to light and/or movement was enough to create a justifiable and fit artistic subject out of literally anything. Impressionists learned how to transcribe directly their visual sensations of nature, unconcerned with the actual depiction of physical objects in front of them.
Impressionist’s art is based on two ideas- one that a quickly painted oil sketch records a landscape’s general appearance and two, a vision untainted by intellectual perception gives birth to pure art.
